Jr's Coaching Approach
Step 1:
We watch you ride
Before anything else, you ride and we watch. Cornering, braking, climbing, descending. Ten minutes usually tells us more than an hour of talking.
Step 2:
We fix the cause, not the symptom
Washing out in corners is rarely a cornering problem. It's usually where your eyes were three seconds earlier. We work back to what's actually causing it.
Step 3:
We make it hold under pressure
Anyone can do it right once, slowly, on a flat bit of fire road. We rebuild it until it holds when you're tired, racing, and the ground is falling away.
Where we ride
Home base is Walloon, 15 minutes west of Ipswich, and we'll travel to whichever trail network suits what you're working on.
Our own cross country track and the home of Wild West & Cyclocross National series. Purpose built for XC & CX, so it's the best place to work on climbing traction, race lines and lap pacing without dodging traffic on the trail.
Twenty minutes down the road at Grandchester, with a big network graded from green through to black. The best spot for stepping up to harder features at your own pace, because there's nearly always an easier version of the same trail close by.
Mt Coot-tha, on Brisbane's western edge. The long climbs and rocky descents make it the pick for climbing technique and holding your braking together when you're already cooked.
South-east of Brisbane in the Redlands, and a proper cross country race venue. Steep, punchy and technical in places, which makes it the right place to work on repeat efforts and holding your technique together once your legs are gone.
Right on Ipswich's doorstep, on old mining ground. Steep pinches and loose, rocky surfaces that punish poor traction and sloppy weight distribution, which makes it ideal for a short sharp session on climbing and body position without anyone having to drive far.
Two adjoining networks south of Brisbane in Logan, which between them give you enough trail to run a full session without riding the same track twice. A fair mix of flow and rock, and handy for southside riders who want a session closer to home.
Ready to stop guessing?
Tell us what you ride, where you ride and what’s frustrating you. We’ll tell you honestly whether coaching will help and which session suits.
